Basic Multiplication Facts--- You need to have these memorized!
Extended multiplication facts
Extended multiplication facts are basic multiplication facts with one of the numbers multiplied by a power of 10, such as 10, 100, 1,000, etc.
Example:
7 x 5 = 35 (basic)
70 x 5 = 350 (extended)
7 x 50 = 350 (extended)
700 x 5 = 3,500 (extended)
7 x 500 = 3,500 (extended)
7,000 x 5 = 35,000 (extended)
7 x 5,000 = 35,000 (extended)
***Notice the numbers of zeros in the product MUST have the same number of zeros that are in the problem***

How can working with extended facts help you solve problems quickly and easily? In order to solve the problem 400 x 30, you can drop the zeros and solve 4 x 3 = 12 (basic multiplication fact). You then take your answer and add three zeros to get a final answer, product, of 12,000.
