Basic Addition Facts
Facts using the digits 0-9 in addition.
Extended addition facts
Extended facts are basic addition facts multiplied by a power of 10, such as 10, 100, 1,000, etc.
Example:
7 + 6 = 13 (basic)
70 + 60 = 130 (extended)
700 + 600 = 1300 (extended)
Example:
7 + 6 = 13 (basic)
70 + 60 = 130 (extended)
700 + 600 = 1300 (extended)
When adding numbers multiplied by a power of 10, drop the zeros and solve the basic fact. Write your answer to the basic fact and add the zeros.
Example:
90 + 50 --> 9 + 5 --> 14 --> add your zero --> 140
130 + 80 --> 13 + 8 --> 21 --> add your zero --> 210
400 + 800 --> 4 + 8 --> 12 --> add your zeros --> 1,200
Example:
90 + 50 --> 9 + 5 --> 14 --> add your zero --> 140
130 + 80 --> 13 + 8 --> 21 --> add your zero --> 210
400 + 800 --> 4 + 8 --> 12 --> add your zeros --> 1,200
